Now that we’re several weeks back in schools this year, we hope that parents are now going through their children’s textbooks, or computer curricula, and making sure we approve of the direction of what is being pushed into these young minds of mush. But as we continue to watch our Country, our Culture and our Society spiral downward, We The People need to assess how we got here, and how do we reverse the direction we are going? We’ve written multiple articles about what a disaster the insertion of the National Government into the public (government) education industry has been. And we have pointed out multiple accomplices in this destruction.
There is one particular UN-indicted co-conspirator, that has been a driving force, all but left untouched as we look at this undermining of our government schools. For some unknown reason, we never talk about those who are producing the garbage that the geniuses are pouring into those developing minds full of mush, and poisoning the minds and souls of the next generation, the textbook publishing industry.
My Dad, who was a Secondary Education Professor, back when it was still a noble profession, used to talk about how the “Dirty Half-dozen” wielded incredible power in the direction of our Country. When I asked who he was referring to, he said the half-dozen major players in the government school textbook publishing industry. How have these basically invisible operations continued to be allowed to advance the indoctrination of the next generation of American students? It’s time we understand that culture is directed by curricula, not the reverse.
Let’s take a relatively recent situation that shows how sinister, even if by accident, this can be. Does everybody remember “Common Core”? You know, that great new way to teach Math and English Language Arts to the next generation of American students from 2010-2012 time-frame. There was a general revolt by parents and grandparents to this “dumbing-down” of their children and grandchildren. And all the Educrats announced that they were ending Common Core, and much of the outrage subsided. But did it end? In a word, “NO”. And why not?
Because ALL of the major textbook publishers, who had fully integrated Common Core into their Math and ELA curricula, so their textbooks were acceptable for States to buy with the “Race To The Bottom” National Government Grant money, weren’t going to take the economic hit of the full revision of their curricula. Remember, these textbooks are really just another commodity that must be developed, printed, distributed and sold for a profit for the publisher to stay in business. So, what does this mean today? The whole design of Common Core is still in many textbooks on the market today, even if they’ve changed the name.
So, where do we go from here? First and most important, the STATES must walk away from the poisoned trough that is National Government education dollars. Second, State Education Administrations must change the whole design of the procurement process for government school curricula. Just because California, or Texas or Florida choose a particular curricula, it doesn’t mean that those curricula are right for Ohio, or South Dakota, or North Carolina or any other State.
I’ll speak to North Carolina, where we live, government schools consume more than half of the State budget annually. Shouldn’t we concentrate on the curricula we’re paying for? We think so, and then we can’t just ignore bad curricula in our individual States. That’s the start of education freedom. Remember the States are designed to be 50 individual laboratories of experimentation to improve the total product. Let’s get back to that plan in government schools!
God Bless America! And America, Please Bless God Again!
