As we start to crank up the next Presidential Pageant, the “Gun Control Campaign Fantasy” cranks up again too. It’s time that we start allowing reality to impinge the world of campaign noise. Reality No. 1- The national government, in the United States will not now, or anytime in the foreseeable future, be able to confiscate privately-owned firearms in America. It’s both a policy thing and a numbers thing on several different levels.
Level No. 1- The Math: There are now over 310 million “known” privately owned firearms in the 3,794,083 square miles of area in the United States. That’s approximately 80 firearms per square mile. And there is approximately 1 Law Enforcement Officer for every 5.8 square miles of area in the United States. Math will set you free. This means on average that EVERY LEO in the United States has approximately 460 privately owned firearms to confiscate. How many guns will any LEO be able to confiscate before there is a total populist uprising?
Level No. 2- The Local and State Policy Effect: Over the last 20 years, there has been an explosion in the gun rights of the individual Citizen at the State and local level all across the Country. From Border to Border and Sea to Sea, US Citizens have more personal gun rights now than they have in the last 30 years. On this point we need to say thank you to the National Rifle Association and the myriad of other gun rights advocacy groups that have sprung up in defense of the 2nd Amendment and the rights of the individual to their self-defense.
Level No. 3- The National Government: Despite much noise and fanfare, and the incidents not related to guns that the propaganda arm of the Liberal-Progressives (aka the “News” media) have tried to blame on the gun, there has not been a single piece of national gun control legislation that has made it through Congress and on to the President’s desk. Even as loudly as the President has been screaming, and as much as he has been chastising Congress, nothing has happened. NOTHING! And does anybody believe that any candidate for President this time will have a stronger “anti-gun bully pulpit” than our first Black President? Me neither.
Level No. 4- The Courts: The year that President Obama was elected a SCOTUS case confirmed the 2nd Amendment as it was intended- District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held in a 5-4 decision that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution applies to federal enclaves and protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. And even during this anti-gun President’s term more cases have confirmed this ruling.
So, what’s my point of this essay? Is it for US to quit worrying about protecting the 2nd Amendment? Oh heck NO! We must be forever vigilant in the fight to protect ALL of our God-given Rights. What I’m saying is with all of the other issues facing this Great Republic in this coming Presidential Pageant, don’t let ANY candidate waste your time and cause you to FOCUS on their gun control stance at the disregard of all other issues. Do you think there can be a more anti-gun President elected than the one we have now? Me neither.
