In a discussion with some friends earlier this week, where the subject was Mr. Donald Trump, and the question was, “Why and how was he the Republican nominee?” The discussion then moved to was Mr. Trump too Conservative and/or too Liberal to win in the General Election? One of the folks in the discussion said that there would be Democrats who would vote for Mr. Trump because they believed he is “liberal enough” for them. Then another friend said they were concerned he wasn’t “conservative enough” to get the “real” Republicans to vote for him.
I agree with a lot of what was said, from both sides of the discussion, except I think there’s a mistake in the labeling. I think there are too many who are misdirected by the whole “Conservative” vs. “Liberal” label game. This is a total invention of the “political elites” on both sides of the aisle and the media. To say that some Democrats will vote for a Trump, “believing he is liberal enough”? I live in “non-urban” North Carolina and I know that many of the Democrats here will be voting for Mr. Trump because he is “Pro-American and Pro-American Values enough”. They will not vote for Hillary Clinton or any of the current Democrats in the running because they are all just too Anti-American. They didn’t come out to vote for Romney or McCain for the almost the same reason, they just didn’t see them as Pro-American enough, to be seen as being that different from Barack Obama, when it came to being “American enough”.
You can call it “nationalism” or “nativism” or any of the other “isms”, but to be willing to stand on the simple intent to “Make America Great Again”, by a candidate who so many average Americans see as someone, who can and will do it, is the difference. This is why the Jeb Bushes AND the Ted Cruzes and the rest of the Republican Primary field just got smoked by Mr. Trump. They were all campaigning on their “policy positions”, and this nuance or that nuanced view, and the great majority of We The People are sick and tired of the “smartest among US” arguing about this policy or that policy. While they have done NOTHING to solve anything. Like him or not, Mr. Trump is the ONLY candidate who has talked about the real problems facing America today, then laid out simple and basic solutions that the majority of We The People see as in the best interest of the Country, and our fellow US Citizens. And the majority of We The People know that ALL of the high-minded policy positions, by the “smartest among US”, are exactly why we are where we are today and have provided NONE of the solution.
I think that there are too many of those in the political “bubble” who don’t believe that there are that many people in this Country, who are still proud and patriotic Americans first. Please think about that for just a minute. Over the last 30+ years the national government, through its takeover of the K-12 education industry, has worked hard to “homogenize” the next generations and make them “Citizens of the World”, not US Citizens. But this election cycle those who were raised as US Citizens, first and in every sense of the word, are deciding to have their voices heard. And they’re saying, that at last they see and believe, there is one candidate who is “American enough” for them to show up and vote FOR.
We see this as being why a large number of Registered Democrats have changed their registration to vote in Republican primaries across the Country. It’s not so they can “skew” the results of the Republican race and then go back and vote for the Democrat. A friend and business associate of mine told me his parents are two of those who were life-long Democrats in Pennsylvania, and changed their registration to Republican just to vote for Mr. Trump in their State’s closed primary. They told him that this was the first time in 30+ years they saw somebody running as a Republican, who made them want to go to the trouble to change their registration, to vote FOR a candidate in the Republican primary. Now whether or not Mr. Trump can and/or will do all that he has campaigned on doing will be a question to be answered going forward. But there are a large number of our fellow US Citizens who are saying there is finally a candidate who is American enough to get them to show up and vote FOR him. And whether you like Mr. Trump or don’t, you have to see this as a good thing. Or I have to believe you are just not “American enough”!
Good Bless America! And America, Please Bless God Again!
