On October 6, 2015 our State Capitol City of Raleigh held their municipal elections. And as a US Citizen, it is just embarrassing. In a city of 431,746 Citizens, only 35,877 showed up and voted for the highest profile position on the ballot, Mayor. That is a fabulous 8.3% of the population deciding the government of the WHOLE city for the next term. That’s just pitiful.
And it’s not just in Raleigh; let’s look at the last Mayoral elections (2013-2015) in the Country’s “Big Three”. New York Metro- Population- 8,406,000, Turnout- 1,102,000, ~13.1%. Los Angeles- Population- 3,884,000, Turnout- 410,000, ~10.5%. Chicago- Population- 2,722,000, Turnout- 478,000, ~17.5%.
But what should we expect as we are in to our third generation of “Civics illiterates” having been produced by our education system? And I have to believe this is by design. The central government Liberal-Progressives, who have dominated the national government bureaucracies for the last 100 years, have already achieved much of what was first started in to action by President Woodrow Wilson.
It’s sad enough that so many of our fellow Citizens can’t name who their US Congressman or US Senators are. Or can’t identify their State House Members or Senators. But how many have a clue who their County Commissioners or City Council members are? And even worse, how many have actually ever showed up to specifically vote for them, much less attended one of their meetings? This is where, I believe, we are losing our Country and our Culture.
Our Founders in no uncertain terms intentionally gave US a Divinely inspired road map to Liberty and Prosperity in our Constitution of these united States. And they also were all strong local government advocates. The design of our Republic was for all government to emanate from the Town Square and flow up from there. But now everything focuses on what flows down from Washington, DC.
If our Republic as we know it is to survive another generation, we MUST reverse this. Representative government all starts at home. Are you involved? If not, and you care about the future of our Republic, you better get involved. Or this Great American Experiment will soon come to an end. Think globally and act locally!
God Bless America! And America, Please Bless God Again!
