Editor’s Note: ”DO ‘SOMETHING’!” Part 2
Last week’s “Minuteman’s Minute” was written as a direct indictment of “Political Correctness” as the responsible party for the murder of 17 people and the injury of several others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL on St. Valentine’s Day 2018. However over the last week information has continued to come out that makes me realize that there is a previously un-indicted co-conspirator. That person is Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. And this is now a much bigger issue than just Sheriff Israel.
Now, why would we say this about this single law enforcement “officer”? Because it is the truth and every time this person CHOOSES to open his mouth and speak publicly, he reinforces that this is the only conclusion we can reach. When I was a young man my father told me something I always accepted as a valuable life lesson, “Son, you can sit silent in the corner and let people assume that you’re an idiot, or you can CHOOSE to step forward and confirm the fact.” It appears that Sheriff Israel was never given this valuable advice.
Anybody who has read this blog in the past knows that we have a great respect for our Law Enforcement Officers, who go out every day and put their lives on the line, and protect our lives and property against the worst among us. This has not changed. What we are learning more so every day is that this Sheriff represents the worst of what can happen when a person, who daily appears to be more of a politician than law enforcement officer, infest the noble office of County Sheriff.
His continual excuses for why he’s not responsible for the disaster that happened on that fateful Wednesday afternoon just amplifies why he is responsible. What we are learning more every day is that this politician has created a systemic operation of failure as the most powerful Law Enforcement Officer in Broward County. And just as he has seen fit to rail against President Trump to “DO ‘SOMETHING’!” as the Chief Executive Officer of the United States, it keeps being revealed that his total failure as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of Broward County had much more effect in the tragedy that happened at that school.
I felt like I had to write this today because for decades many Progressives have worked to minimize the Constitutional office that is the County Sheriff. Going back to the days of the Magna Carta , the Office of the High Sheriff has been a bedrock piece of our civil government- http://www.magnacharta.com/bomc/the-sheriff-and-magna-charta/. And when a weasel or other rodent infests this critical Office, they must be called out. Sheriff Israel is showing everyday that referring to him as a weasel or other rodent is actually a compliment considering his actions over the last several days. And even more so because of the systemic fail that is his whole operation.
At this point we totally agree with the calls for Sheriff Israel to resign from his office. And if he chooses not to resign, he should be removed by whatever legal and correct means necessary. There now appears to be a move afoot in the State of Florida, and also in the national “news” media, to make this in to a partisan issue. THIS IS NOT A PARTISAN ISSUE TO US! We see this as a direct assault on the foundational position of our civil government that is the County Sheriff. We would also ask that County Sheriffs from across the Country would put pressure on Sheriff Israel to resign. This is because the longer he infests their ranks, the darker and bigger the stain of his actions will become on the noble office of the County Sheriff. This has really become about much more than what happened in that school in Parkland, FL on February 14, 2018. This is now about the continued erosion of the Constitutional Office of the County Sheriff and its critical position in our civil government and our Society.
